Trade Index Options Beyond the Close

Global Trading Hours (GTH) is tastytrade's extended session for a select group of Cboe index options. You can place limit orders on SPX, XSP, VIX, and RUT options outside of standard U.S. market hours, so you can respond to overnight news and global market moves instead of waiting for the next regular session. 

GTH is currently available on a limited product set—it does not extend to equity options or other listed products, which continue to trade only during regular market hours. 

Only limit orders are accepted. Market, stop, and stop-limit orders will be rejected at entry during Global Trading Hours. Spreads and other multi-leg orders are supported. To route a GTH session order, switch the Trade Session to 24 Hours on trade entry:

Two Time-in-Force options are built for the extended session: 

• Ext Overnight - active for the current extended session only; expires at its close. 
• GTC Ext Overnight - stays working across both regular and extended sessions until it fills or you cancel it. 

A standard Day order entered during the extended session doesn't expire at the end of that session—it remains active through the close of the next regular session. 

Trading outside regular hours is different from trading during the day. Liquidity is typically low, spreads can be wider, and prices may move more on less volume. 

Consider: 

• Understanding that a fill is never guaranteed, especially in fast-moving or thin markets 
• Reviewing that margin requirements, Good Faith Violation rules, and standard buying power treatment all continue to apply exactly as they do in regular hours 

There are no minimum deposits needed to open and maintain an account at tastytrade. However, if you want to trade with margin privileges, you’ll need a margin account with a minimum account balance of $2,000.

We do not charge a fee for incoming ACATS transfers, but the transferring broker may charge you an outgoing ACATS transfer fee. We will reimburse up to $75 in ACATS fees for each transfer of at least $2,000.
